TMI Tuesday #4

Today is a rant. A long-winded potentially pointless rant.

Background...
I'm a student. My major is University Studies. This allows me a lot of freedom (1 minor, 2 clusters) in the classes I take.
My minor?
Home and Family studies=sewing, cooking, parenting, child development etc. LOVE IT!

First cluster?
Creative writing=lit and writing classes. LOVE IT!

Second cluster?
Photography=art and photo classes. hoping to LOVE IT!

I have an excellent camera and I really want to learn to take better quality pictures.
Which is why I decided to cluster in something I wasn't already slightly familiar with.

It's scary for me!

But I am learning something. You know how English majors can be really snobby?
(And I can say that because I was one for a while and still sort of am...)

Well, these Art majors are uber-snobs too!

I'm in an online Art 117 class. Elements and Principles of Design.
100 level. Brand new.
Oh, no. WRONG!
Everyone in the class is already really good and talented. I mean, stellar paintings and drawings are scanned and submitted each week and I am left ashamed of my crappy skills.
Part of the course is commenting on other people's work.
Yeah, I freaking hate that.

My art teacher has sent several emails demanding perfection, especially in our cutting and measurements and following directions.
He finished off one email with the following sentence:

"Remember, anything worth doing is worth do well"

Do you see the irony in this?
Apparently his sentence was not worth writing...
Art Snob!
Which just goes to show the only thing people are concerned about being perfect is what they see as most important. To me, my teacher looks like an idiot every time he sends an email because it is scattered with typos and grammar mistakes.

Last week we were assigned a color wheel.
Yes!

I can do that!

I spent hours mixing colors and even more time cutting out perfectly measured squares for the final assignment. I painted on fancy paper before attaching it to the copy paper. I didn't want my teacher to have any room to tell me I don't know how to follow directions
Here's my final product and I am pretty proud of it. Considering my Art kit was missing red paint I think I made out pretty well.
(mixing orange and magenta will eventually make red if you plead and cry with it enough)

First comment I received?

"so neat!! I like all the perfectly straight edges! it looks like you could have just done it on the computor. Great job on hiding the mark of the artist!"

Seriously????
 Can you say....
ART SNOB!!
Computer is spelled wrong and her sarcasm is practically bleeding through my computer screen.
"hiding the mark of the artist"
Talk about
RUDE!

And just for your viewing pleasure, here is her final product:

She submitted it upside down and off center
I didn't just make it that way for the blog
hah!

Okay, Okay. I'm done with my rant.

Um.... TMI!

(easy) Kid-Friendly Ghost Costume!

I say "kid-friendly" because I really don't want my 3-year-old son running around with a sheet over his head or long Ghost tails to trip on. So I modified a few of the regulars and it turned out perfect for Sunshine

Remember my little Clown?
Well, Sunshine needed a costume, too.
And I totally lucked out.
Whenever I asked him what he wanted to be for Halloween he would say,

"OoooOOOooo!!! A scary Ghost!"

This is a common game at our house...
 So, a Ghost it is!

Well, I can do that!
I figure our theme this Halloween is:
retro-traditional-oldfashioned-Halloween costumes.
It works...

Getting ready to shout,
BOO!

It's Super-Easy...

The Bird is a Clown

Remember the sneak peek I gave ya last week?

Well here it is!

The Bird is a Clown :)
Good guess, Kristi!

Look at that face...

She was pretty curious about that red nose

 And that hat?
She seriously couldn't get any cuter...

TMI Tuesday #3

It's that time again!

(Btw, I haven't forgotten about the Bird's Halloween costume... it's just I don't have a brain. I bought all the supplies to make her costume last week, completely ignoring the fact I was getting my wisdom teeth out on Friday. Um hello? Do I have a brain? No. But I'm truckin' along on it and hopefully will be done soon.)

Okay, back to it.

This week we will embark on TMI and also an embarrassing fact or two.

A couple weeks back, a group of girls went to Applebees.
See? Here's the napkin.
Proof.

It just so happen that about 99.99% of the group was pregnant.

Weird!

Not really.

The topic started moving that way, because it always does, and before you know it we're talking about
 self checking.
to see.
how.
far.
Dilated.

You read that right...
Self-checking.

Um. What?
(Say "what"accenting the "h"... that's how I'm saying it)

What?
What?
What???!?!

I was totally confused.
How does that even work? I asked.
How would you know what it's suppose to feel like? I voiced.

So my friend, being the dear she is, flipped that napkin over and drew me this little beauty:
 Darkest circle?
Mucus plug
And I'll stop there.

If we ever have another baby, "self-checking" will be yet another thing to add to the list of things I missed the first two times around...

The embarrassing thing was how many questions the table was asking, considering almost all of us had at least one baby.

I have two kiddos.
Sunshine
and
The Bird
And I am grossly uninformed about the anatomy and biological process of birth.

I just wait for
"She's at a 10!"
and start pushing.

um...TMI!!!

Sneak a peek

So it's a little short notice
But...

I decided to make my daughter's Halloween costume.
And I just bought the fabric today...

(Told you it was short notice!)

Anyhoo,
I thought I would give ya a little sneak-peek at what I'm making for my little lovely.

Any guesses???

Stay tuned for a tutorial
(it'll be a few days... the fabric is currently in the wash)

TMI Tuesday #2

Today's TMI features a stranger at Walmart.
And me.

A few days ago I was looking at the tights right next to all the undies and bras.
(buying bras at Walmart? That could be TMI right there...)

When a conversation a little like this took place...

Me:
Stranger: Arg, I hate looking for underwear. I hate panty lines.
Me:
Stranger: I used to wear thongs when I worked out, because I hate panty lines so much.
Me:
Stranger: But then I started getting raging incurable yeast infections.  I couldn't figure out why! Then finally my doctor told me to stop wearing thongs while I work out.
Me:
Stranger: And then they went away! It was amazing!
Me: So what do you do about the panty lines now?
Stranger: Oh, I just don't wear anything.
Me:

Um... TMI!!!

TMI Tuesday #1

It's Tuesday!
Time for a TMI moment from yours truly

But first let's talk TMI.

 What does it mean?
Too Much Information

Huh?

Ever had a friend or stranger tell you way more than you ever needed to know?

Yep.

Sometimes I will be the one giving the TMI
Or I'll share a story of a TMI experience out in the wild

Or...

I would love to hear TMI from my readers!
Send your stories to
starrstown@hotmail.com
and your TMI moment could be shared with the masses!
(Please don't send personal stories. I want to hear stories that had you internally screaming "TMI!!" as your friend or stranger delved deeper into their colonoscopy nightmare or the like)

Okay, let's get started.

About a year ago when my son was getting into his big boy bed, I bought new sheets.
A nice navy blue and a deep red.
MISTAKE.
I should have gone with a pastel or even just white.

His sheets:

Not only does this kid drool like crazy in is sleep but he moves around all night long.
The above picture depicts one night of drooling sleep.
SICK!
So next time, I'll be sticking to white sheets for my drooling monster of a child.

um.... TMI!!

Handsome Halloween Gentlemen!

Happy October!

It's freezing in Idaho which means it must be
Fall!

I am so excited about this craft! It was really fun and turned out better than I imagined.
Ready?
Here it is!

Don't those little guys look so dapper with their top hats?
I was smiling my face off during this whole project, my cheeks hurt by the end.
Just so dang cute!

Last year I saw a friend with milk jug pumpkins and knew this year I had to try my hand at it.

Would you like to try?

TMI Disclaimer

Because I think we need it...

TMI Tuesday
=
Stories. Of all kinds.

They might be over-the-top medical advice.
Or just way more than we wanted to know about where babies come from.
They may also be long-winded tales of the adventures I've had with way more detail than you ever needed to know.
(if you've known me long enough, you know I have a tendency to tell the longest, and sometimes most pointless stories, ever.)
There might be some rants thrown in now and then, too.
Or, they could be stories from readers! If you'd like to guest post for TMI Tuesday, email me
 starrstown@hotmail.com
or contact me on the facebook page.
Are they true?
Yes.
They will always be true.

But...

To keep my family happy and the number of friends I have staying on the upward trend,
I change names.
And sometimes that "stranger" is actually someone I know.
Or a few details are changed to protect the persons privacy
(and my car from being key-ed)

So please, don't let this change how you think of me as a friend.

And if you think you see yourself portrayed on a TMI Tuesday, take it as an honor!
And if you want the credit, take it!
That's what the comment section is for :)

Looking forward to many more Tuesdays with you :)
